Tirattipal is nothing but the traditional method of making palkova/milk peda. Tiratti in Tamil means ‘gather’ and pal means ‘milk’. In the traditional method, milk is boiled along with sugar and thickened to coarse consistency to get this Tirattipal. Today we are going to see the easy method using the condensed milk.
Tirattipal is very famous in Srivilliputhur, Tamil Nadu. This peda has a very coarse texture and also some use jaggery instead of sugar. To get this coarse texture we add yogurt into the milk to curdle. The traditional method of making tirattipal takes a lot of time say at least one hour. We are going to make it with condensed milk and it takes less than half an hour to prepare. You can simply make it with condensed milk, yogurt, and ghee. But personally, I feel it tastes so sweet. So in my method, I added little milk and milk powder to balance the sugar.
Kids will love this a lot. I have shown the stove top method. You can even make this with a microwave. It takes only 10-12 mins to work with microwave. The steps are very simple mix all the ingredients in a microwave-safe bowl. Mix it and keep it for 3 mins in high in 3 equal intervals. Mix it in between till the coarse texture arrives. Serve hot or cold. Now let us see how to prepare this recipe on the stove top.

- 1 tin Condensed milk
- 2 tbsp Yogurt
- 2 tsp Ghee
- 1/3 Cup Milk powder
- 1/4 Cup Milk
- Heat a kadai, add condensed milk, milk powder, milk and mix thoroughly without any lumps. Bring to boil.
- While hot add yogurt, mix well and cook for a minute. The mixture starts to curdle and starts a coarse texture as shown. At this stage add ghee and mix thoroughly.
- Stir continuously scraping the sides and mixing for 15-20 minutes until the mixture thickens. At a stage, the peda turns to fine coarse texture and gathers at center as shown. Switch off the flame. Thirattipal is ready. Serve hot or cold.
- Add yogurt once the mixture turns hot.
- After adding yogurt if the texture of the mix does not turn to coarse, add another one or two tsp of yogurt to the mix.
- The purpose of adding yogurt is to get the coarse texture of the peda.
- Entire process should be made on medium flame.
- I have added milk and milk powder to reduce the sweetness of the condensed milk. You can even skip the milk and milk powder.
