Fish Fry / Meen Varuval (மீன் வறுவல்) in Tamil is one of the easiest recipes from Salem. We can use different types of fish to fry and each fish differs in its taste. Fish fry can either be shallow or deep fried. This fry requires fewer ingredients and prepared very easily.
In this recipe, I am using Kingfish or otherwise known as Vanjiram or Surmai. Cut fish into thin slices. Wash it thoroughly using salt and lemon juice in water. Dry them using a kitchen towel. As I am marinating only 6 pieces, I have directly added all the ingredients to the fish. When marinating in large quantity, first mix the ingredients in a bowl with little water and make it into a paste. Then take little marinade and apply on both sides of the fish one by one. For best result refrigerate the marinated fish for at least one hour. Usually, I marinate overnight so that all the spices and salt would diffuse properly. Now let us see how to prepare this Fish Fry. This fry can be had as an accompaniment with Rasam or Fish Curry.
- 6 pieces King Fish / Vanjiram meen
- 1/4 tsp Turmeric powder
- 2 tsp Chili powder
- 1 tsp Garlic Paste
- 1 tsp Lemon juice
- salt to taste
- oil to deepfry
- Keep all the ingredients ready. Wash the fish thoroughly. Take a bowl, place the fish. Add turmeric powder, chili powder, garlic paste, salt and lemon juice. Mix fish and ingredients thoroughly. Refrigerate it at least for one hour.
- Heat a Kadai and add oil. Once oil gets heated add 2 or 3 fish pieces at a time and deep fry till golden brown in medium flame. Flip fish to other side and fry till the other side turns golden brown. Remove it on a kitchen towel. Fish fry is ready. Serve hot.
- Apart from Kingfish, you can make use of Pomfret or Sankara fish.
- After marinating, refrigerate it at least for an hour.
- Once oil gets heated, bring it to medium low flame and fry fish on both sides till golden brown.
Crispy and delicious Kingfish / Vanjiram Fish Fry is ready to relish.
