Watermelon Granita is a fantastic and easy summer refresher. Incredibly refreshing granita which can be made with just 4 ingredients. The perfect treat for Summer. Last week I posted Watermelon Juice, with those same ingredients I made this delicious granita.
Granita is a semi-frozen dessert made from sugar, water, and various flavorings. It is neither an ice cream nor a sorbet but it is in the form of icy flakes. Common and traditional flavoring ingredients include lemon juice, mandarin oranges, jasmine, coffee, almonds, mint, and when in season wild strawberries and black mulberries.
This watermelon Granita is so simple to prepare. This is our new favorite summer dessert. The ingredients used are watermelon, mint leaves, ginger and lemon juice. Just blend everything in a blender, freeze it for 6-7 hours, scrape it with a fork, serve immediately and enjoy. Now let us see how to prepare this granita.
- 1 kg Watermelon
- 1 inch Ginger
- 9-10 Mint/Pudina Leaves
- 2 tbsp Lemon juice
- 1/4 cup Sugar or honey (optional)
- Remove seeds from watermelon and chop it into cubes. In a blender add mint leaves, ginger and blend it coarsely.
- Now add watermelon, (sugar if required) and blend it thoroughly. Add lemon juice and mix well.
- Close the lid and keep it in the refrigerator for 6-7 hours in a freezer safe bowl. Using a fork, scrape granita to form icy flakes. Serve immediately or else it will melt.
- Do not add any water.
- Add only specified amount of mint leaves or it will give a bitter taste.
- My watermelon was very sweet, so did not add any sugar or honey.
- If adding sugar or honey adjust according to your taste.
- Scrape granita while serving or else it will melt.
