Tandoori Chicken is a popular Indian dish made of chicken marinated in yogurt and spices. The dish is named tandoor, as this is prepared traditionally in a clay oven. This is a very popular dish, which can be found, as the main menu in all top restaurants and roadside shops.
The chicken is marinated in a mixture of yogurt and the spicy tandoori masala. Kashmiri chili powder, turmeric powder, and lemon are used to enhance the color. The marinated chicken is placed on skewers and cooked at high temperatures in a heated clay oven known as the tandoor. It is heated with charcoal or wood which adds to the smoky flavor. The dish can also be cooked in a standard electric oven. Today we are going to see how to prepare this on a stove top.

This Tandoori Chicken can be had as a starter or as an appetizer or even as a main course along with naan, roti or pulka. This is also used as a base chicken in numerous gravies such as butter chicken, chicken tikka masala and much more.
- 1 tbsp Kashmiri Red Chili Powder
- 1/4 Cup Yogurt
- 1 tsp Coriander powder
- 1/2 tsp Turmeric powder
- 1 tbsp Tandoori Masala Powder
- 1 tbsp Ginger Garlic Paste
- 1 tbsp Corn Flour
- 1/2 Lemon juice
- salt to taste
- 1 tbsp oil
- 2 Chicken leg with thigh
- 1 tsp Ghee
- 2 tsp oil
- Clean chicken thoroughly. Make gashes so that masalas will infuse thoroughly into the chicken. Now add all masalas specified under "For Marinade" along with the chicken. Mix it thoroughly and let it marinate for at least 1 hour.
- Then heat a kadai add 2 tsp of oil, 1 tsp ghee. Once oil gets heated add the marinated chicken. At first slow cook on both sides for a minute or two. Initially, the chicken will release the water. Do not mix it. Let it cook with out mixing it.
- Then slow cook on both sides for 10-15 minutes till all the water is absorbed and the chicken turns crispy as shown in the picture. Tandoori Chicken is ready. Serve hot with green chutney.
- If we cook in tandoor coal should be very hot. But as we are cooking on stove top it should be cooked on medium low flame only.
- Flip both sides then and there and slow cook till it becomes crispy.
- You can even cook this in an oven. Cook at 150°C for 40-45 mins in a preheated oven.
- Serve hot with green chutney, onion and lemon wedges.
You can have this Tandoori Chicken along with Naan, Whole Wheat Garlic Naan, Kulcha, Roti.
