Spicy Mutton Chops is a juicy and succulent dry fry chops from the region of Dindigul, Tamil Nadu. Mutton Chops roasted in the blend of spices takes this recipe to the next level. This recipe was shared by my SIL and she hails from Dindigul.
This is one of the easy chops recipes. No need for marination. Grind all the spices, pressure cook chops along with the ground spices and roast it on medium flame in a kadai till it is done. Delicious Spicy Mutton Chops is ready. This recipe is so simple that even a bachelor can make it without any difficulty. You can have this as a side dish or remove it half way while it is in gravy consistency and have it along with roti, rice, idli, and dosa. You can see how it empties in no time. - 2 tbsp oil
- 1/4 tsp Fennel seed/Sombu
- 10-12 Whole Pepper
- 1 strand Curry leaves
- 1 tbsp Coconut grated
- 1/2 tsp Fennel seed/Sombu
- 1 Clove/Lavangam
- 1/2 inch Cinnamon stick/Pattai
- 1 tbsp Whole Pepper
- 1 Dry Red Chili
- 3 Garlic pods
- 1/2 inch Ginger
- 1 piece Onion
- 1 piece Tomato
- 300 gms Mutton Chops 6 pieces approx
- 1/4 tsp Turmeric powder
- 1 tbsp Coriander leaves finely chopped
- salt to taste
- 1 tbsp oil
- In a mixer add all the ingredients given under "To grind" and grind to a smooth paste by adding little water.
- Thoroughly clean mutton chops using salt and turmeric water. Rinse well, drain water completely and set aside. Heat a pressure cooker, add a tbsp of oil. Once oil gets heated add mutton chops and cook for 3-4 mins till the color of mutton changes to pink. Then add ground paste, turmeric powder, salt to taste, little water and mix thoroughly.
- Pressure cook the mixture for 5 whistles. Switch off the flame and let it cool completely. Once cooled remove the lid and set aside.
- Heat a kadai, add oil. Now add the ingredients one by one given under "To temper". Once they crackle, add the pressure cooked mutton chops to it. Adjust salt if required.
- Cook on medium flame till all the water is evaporated and the chops are roasted well. Garnish with coriander leaves. Spicy Mutton Chops is ready.
- If you want this chops to be spicier add extra pepper or dry red chili while grinding.
- My SIL even adds a tbsp of coriander seeds while grinding.
- Just add only a little water while grinding.
- You can even remove it half way while it is in gravy consistency and have it along with roti, rice, idli, and dosa.
