Sesame Ladoo/Ellu Urundai are traditionally made using sesame seed, jaggery or palm jaggery along with cardamom powder. This is one of the simple ladoo made without checking for string consistency of jaggery. Yes, jaggery is grated and directly added to make this delicious ladoo.
These ladoos can be made for any festival especially on Makara Sankranthi or simply can be had as evening snacks for kids and elders too. Sesame is said to have heat property and mostly prepared for winters. This sesame ladoo in very healthy as I have included flax seed too in this. This ladoo can be made in different varieties and shapes either in the form of ladoo or chikki/burfi. You can even add finely chopped and roasted cashews, roasted peanuts, grated coconut to this ladoo. Instead of jaggery, you can use palm jaggery too. Some even add dates instead of jaggery to make it healthier. Now let us see how to prepare this recipe.

- 1 Cup Sesame seed/Ellu
- 1/4 Cup Flax Seed
- 1.25 Cup Jaggery/Vellam grated
- 1 tsp Cardamom/Elaichi Powder
- 1 tsp Ghee
- Dry roast sesame seed and Flax seed separately on low flame until a nice aroma comes. Once done place it on a plate and let it cool completely.
- In a mixer add roasted sesame seed, flax seed, grated jaggery, cardamom powder and grind to a smooth powder.
- Transfer the mix to a wide bowl. Apply ghee in your palm. Take a handful mix and make a lemon size ball. Till ladoo is ready.
- As I had white sesame seed, made ladoo using it. You can even make ladoo using black sesame seed.
- To make it healthier I added a quarter cup of flax seed too. You can either add or skip according to your taste.
- You can even add finely chopped and roasted cashews, roasted peanuts, grated coconut to this ladoo.
- Instead of jaggery, you use palm jaggery too.
