Spicy Phool Makhana is an easy evening snack which is rich in protein, vitamin, and dietary minerals. Phool Makhana is also known as foxnuts or lotus seeds. This is high in fiber and low in calories and enables in weight loss. You can replace popcorn with phool makhana to munch while watching tv.
The beauty of these seeds is in their versatility. Phool makhana is not only used as a snack, it is also used to prepare various dishes like kheer, gravy and much more. The most common use of the seed is in the form of lotus seed paste, which is used extensively in Chinese pastries as well as in Japanese desserts. The seed has a very neutral taste and takes on the flavors added to it. So you can transform this into any form of sweet, snack or gravy.
This phool makhana has so many health benefits like reducing the high blood pressure, heart disease and obesity due to their high magnesium and low sodium content. So these are also highly consumed in India during the fasting period to boost the immune system. This is also used in Ayurvedic and Unani medicines. Now let us see how to prepare this recipe.
- 2 cups Phool makhana/Foxnuts/lotus seeds
- 1/2 tsp Turmeric powder
- 1 tsp Chili powder
- 1 tsp Chaat Masala Powder
- salt to taste
- 1 tsp Ghee
- Heat a kadai add ghee. Once ghee gets heated add makhana phool and roast it on low flame for 2-3 mins until it turns crispy. If you press a makhana phool it will crumble easily.
- Once it turns to crumble stage, add turmeric powder, chili powder, chaat masala powder, salt to taste and mix thoroughly until all mixed well. Switch off the flame. Spicy Phool Makhana is ready.
- You can add either chaat masala powder or garam masala powder according to your taste.
- Make sure to cook on low flame only as it gets burnt easily.
- If you want to make this in South Indian style you can go ahead and add curry leaves, two crushed garlic pods, pepper powder while sauteeing.
- Fry the makhana phool in ghee only as it gives a nice taste.
Crispy and delicious Phool Makhana is ready to relish along with a cup of hot coffee/tea.
