Coconut Filled Bun is one of the most popular snacks from the bakery of South India. This is usually named as Dilkush or Dilpasand. This bun is filled with coconut and tutti fruity filling. This is loved by all irrespective of the age. Today we are going to see the eggless version of the coconut bun.
Making of bakery style coconut bun is very easy. This consists of only minimal ingredients and tastes awesome. The things that you have to take care while making this bun is, you need to mix the dough thoroughly and let it rest till it is double the size of the volume. In a hot climate, it doubles within one hour, whereas in cold countries you have to keep it for 2 to 3 hrs or until it raises. Follow the given ingredients and measurements as such and you will surely get the same texture and taste as we get in the bakery shop. Now let us see how to prepare this recipe.
- 2 cups All purpose flour/Maida
- 200 ml Lukewarm Milk
- 3 tbsp Sugar powdered
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 1 tsp Instant Yeast
- 50 gms Butter melted
- 1 tsp oil
- 3/4 cup Coconut grated
- 1 tsp Cardamom/Elachi powder
- 2 tbsp Sugar powdered
- 3 tbsp Tutti Fruity
- In a wide bowl add all-purpose flour, salt, sugar, yeast and mix thoroughly. Then make a well in the center and add melted ghee. Then add warm milk little by little and knead to chapati dough consistency. Apply oil, close the lid and let it rest for at least 1 hr.
- Meanwhile, make the filling for the bun. Mix all the ingredients under "For filling" in a bowl and set aside. After 1 hr the dough must be doubled. Now cut dough into two portions, one big and the other one little smaller.
- Now spread each dough flat and make into round circle. One must be bigger than the other. Now in a baking tray place a parchment paper. On parchment paper place the smaller one and fill it with coconut filling. The filling should not be placed until the edge. Place it as shown in the picture leaving some space on the outside. Now cover it with the bigger circle dough and tuck it in the edges, so that while baking filling will not be coming out. Then brush on top with milk to get the brown crust while baking.
- Once done let it rest for 15 mins. Preheat oven to 180 degrees C for 10 mins. Now place the prepared dough and cook for 35-40 mins at 180 degrees C or until done. Once done remove and place it on the rack. Apply little butter on top to get the shining. Now make into pieces and relish.
- As I am using instant yeast I directly add it to the flour. If you are using dry yeast you need to mix it in lukewarm milk along with sugar and proof it for 15 mins and mix in the flour.
- If you are health conscious you can use half of the all-purpose flour and half of whole wheat flour. Or else you can replace all-purpose flour with whole wheat flour.
Delicious Coconut Filled Bun is ready to relish.
