Rava Payasam is one of the simple and easy payasam which is prepared with rava, milk, and sugar. This month is holy for Thirupathi Balaji and we call it as Purattasi month in Tamil. The whole month is auspicious and each Saturday we prepare some sweet and offer it as Prashad to Balaji.
As last week was first Saturday of this auspicious month I prepared this Rava Payasam as Prashad. Usually, we prepare Sweet Pongal, but this time I wanted to try something easy and tasty. This payasam can be prepared in a jiffy with the basic ingredients which is available in our pantry. Even though this can be prepared in no time, there is no compromise in taste. The specified amount of sugar was enough for me. If you have sweet tooth instead of 1/3 cup of sugar add 1/2 cup of sugar. Now let us see how to prepare this recipe.
- 1/4 cup Rava/Sooji/Samolina
- 1/3 cup Powdered Sugar
- 1.5 cup Full Fat Milk
- 1/2 cup Water
- 1 tsp Cardamom/Elaichi Powder
- 1 tbsp Cashews and Raisins
- 1 tbsp Ghee
- 1 tsp Pistachios/Pista
- In a pan add ghee. Once ghee gets heated add cashews, raisins saute till it turns golden brown. Once done remove it on a plate. In the same pan add rava and saute till the rava is roasted well. Do not let the color of rava change.
- In the roasted rava add milk and cook for few mins until rava is cooked well and the milk is thickened. Now add sugar and cook for 2-3 mins.
- If the payasam is getting thicker adjust by adding hot water. At last, add cardamom powder and give a quick mix. Then add fried cashews and raisins and mix well. Let it cool completely. Garnish with pistachios and serve chilled.
- Use full-fat milk to get the creamy payasam.
- I added palm sugar, you can add any sugar of your choice.
- When the payasam cools it thickens. so adjust the consistency accordingly.
- You can garnish with any dry fruits of your choice.
Delicious Rava Payasam is ready to offer to God as Prashad.
