Corn Flour Halwa is also known as Bombay Karachi Halwa is an Indian sweet prepared using corn flour, sugar, cardamom powder and it is popular for its orange color. This is one of the simple and easy halwa which can be made by the beginners without any hassle.
This halwa is so easy that you no need to check for any sting consistency. Instead of white sugar, I have used raw sugar. You can go ahead and use any sugar of your choice. My hubby is a big fan of halwa, especially Thirunalveli halwa. The traditional method of making Thirunalveli halwa is time-consuming. So in order to treat the sudden cravings, this cornflour halwa comes handy as this can be prepared within half an hour. Now let us see how to prepare this recipe.

- 1/2 cup Corn Flour
- 1.25 cups Water
- 1 cup Sugar
- 1/4 cup Water
- 1 tbsp Lemon juice
- 4 tbsp Ghee
- 1/4 tsp Orange Food Color
- 1/4 tsp Cardamom/Elaichi Powder
- 3 tbsp Mixed Nuts (pistachio, almond, melon seeds each 1 tbsp)
- In a bowl mix cornflour and 1.25 cups of water and set aside. Heat a kadai, add sugar and a cup of water.
- Mix well, let the sugar dissolve and bring it to boil (no need for string consistency). Add lemon juice immediately. Then add cornflour slurry prepared and stir well continuously. It starts to thicken.
- After a few mins, it thickens and becomes transparent. At this stage add 1 tbsp of ghee at a time and mix thoroughly until all the ghee is absorbed. Then add cardamom powder and mix well. Now add orange food color.
- Mix well until all are combined well. At this stage, you can see the halwa doesn't stick to kadai anymore. Now add 3/4th of the finely chopped mixed nuts to halwa and mix well.
- Grease a pan with ghee. Now pour the prepared halwa in the greased pan. Sprinkle remaining nuts on top of the halwa. Let the halwa cool for an hour or 2 completely. Then transfer it to a plate and cut into the desired shape. Soft, melt in mouth cornflour halwa is ready.
- Once sugar dissolves and starts to boil add lemon juice. No need for any string consistency.
- Once halwa starts to leave the kadai, saute for another 5 min and you will get soft, melt in mouth halwa.
- If you want the chewy type of halwa then saute for another extra 10 mins.
- Add any dry fruits of your choice.
- Before cutting the halwa to the desired shape allow it to cool completely.
Delicious, soft, melt in mouth Corn Flour Halwa is ready to relish.
