Instant Poondu Podi is a dipping condiment for idli dosa and can be mixed with rice too. This poondu podi uses only three ingredients and tastes awesome. This podi can be prepared whenever needed instantly.
The traditional method of making poondu podi is made with chana dhal (kadalai paruppu) but this instant version is made with (fried gram) pottukadalai. Mix this instant podi with a dollop of ghee or sesame oil in the hot steamed rice and relish. Those who like the garlic taste will enjoy this even with idli or dosa. once prepared you can store it at room temperature in an airtight container and use it for a fortnight. If you want to use it for a very long time, make it in batches and store it in a ziplock bag and refrigerate it. Then transfer the required amount in a container and use it. For better taste, I would suggest you make this then and there when required. Now let us see how to prepare this recipe.
- 1 cup Fried Gram/Pottukadalai
- 4 Dry Red Chilli
- 6 Garlic pods
- salt to taste
- Add fried gram, dry red chili, garlic pods, salt to taste in a mixer and grind it to a smooth powder. This can be had with both rice or idli dosa. While serving, add little ghee or sesame oil and relish. Instant Poondu podi is ready.
- Specified Chili was enough for me if you want spicier add more chili.
- You can even dry roast fried gram for a min and then powder it in the mixer.
- You should make this to smooth powder as we are having it with rice.
