Potato Peas Bonda is a simple evening snack which goes well with a hot cup of coffee or tea. You can either prepare this bonda from the scratch or simple you can use any leftover potato poriyal to make this delicious snack.
This is an easy snack made with Potato filling coated with Bengal gram flour batter and deep fried in the oil. Most of the kids love potatoes and that too prepared as bonda is loved by all. Bonda can be made without filling too as a plain one. You can find the recipe here in the link Bonda. - 2 Potatoes boiled
- 1/4 cup Peas (fresh or frozen)
- 1 Onion
- 1/4 tsp Turmeric powder
- 1/2 tsp Chili powder
- 1/2 tsp Sambar powder
- 1 strand Curry Leaves/Karuveppilai
- 1 tbsp Coriander Leaves/Kothamalli finely chopped
- salt to taste
- 3 tbsp oil
- 1/2 tsp Mustard seeds /kadugu
- 1/2 tsp Chana dal/kadalai paruppu
- 1/2 cup Bengal gram flour/Kadalai Maavu/Besan
- 2 tbsp Rice flour
- 1 tsp Chili powder
- salt to taste
- 2 cups oil
- Boil potatoes and dice into cubes. I have used frozen peas. If using frozen peas defrost it and set aside.
- Heat a pan and add oil. Once the oil gets heated add mustard seeds, chana dal. Let it crackle.
- Now add onion, curry leaves, and a little salt. Saute until the onion turns translucent.
- Now add turmeric powder and saute well. Then add peas and cook for 5 mins.
- Then add diced potatoes, chili powder, sambar powder, adjust salt and mix well. If required sprinkle little water.
- Cook until the potato turns crispy or to the required consistency. Garnish with coriander leaves. Once done let it cool for a while.
- Transfer the prepared potato filling to a bowl and mash it gently using a fork. Make small lemon size balls with the filling and set aside.
- Now mix besan, chili powder, rice flour, salt with water to a bajji batter consistency. The batter should be neither too thick nor too thin.
- Now dip each prepared potato balls in the batter and deep fry it in the oil until it turns golden brown. Potato Peas Bonda is ready.
- You can either use fresh peas or frozen peas. If using frozen peas defrost it and then use in the recipe.
- Adjust the spice according to your taste.
- While sauteeing you can even add a slit or finely chopped green chili.
- The batter for dipping the potato balls should neither be too thick nor too thin.
