Sprouted black chana salad is a nutrition-packed chaat. It is a good practice to include any sprouted beans in daily meals. Sprouts are also rich in fiber, protein, antioxidants, phytochemicals, bioflavonoids, vitamins, and minerals.
How to sprout in the right way:
- Wash and rinse the grains thoroughly and place them in a wide bowl with enough water.
- Make sure to add enough water i.e. double the amount of the grains.
- Remove any impurities or floating grains.
- Keep it in the room temperature for 8 hrs or overnight to soak. Ensure to cover the mouth of the bowl.
- After it is soaked well, drain it completely, transfer it to a wet kitchen towel and fold it tightly. Let it be there for 24hrs to 48 hrs to sprout.
- If the kitchen towel gets dry sprinkle little water above the towel to retain the moisture which helps the grains to sprout.

Now let us see how to prepare this recipe.
- 1/2 cup Black Chickpea/Konda Kadalai Black Chana
- 1 Onion finely chopped
- 1 Cucumber diced into cubes
- 1 Tomato finely chopped
- 1 tbsp Coriander Leaves/Kothamalli finely chopped
- 2 Green chilies finely chopped
- 1 tbsp Roasted Cumin Powder
- 1 tsp Chaat Masala Powder
- 1/2 tsp Pepper powder
- Himalayan Salt to taste
- 1 tbsp Lemon juice
- Soak a cup of black chickpea in enough water for 8 hrs or overnight.
- once soaked, wash and drain it completely. Transfer soaked black chana to a wet towel. Twist the towel and seal it tightly. Leave it for a day or two until the sprouts start to come.
- Now transfer the sprouted chana to a bowl. Add enough hot boiling water into the sprout and let it be there for 5 mins.
- Now drain it completely after 5 mins.
- Add all the remaining ingredients mentioned above and mix well.
- A healthy sprout mix is ready. Serve immediately.
- It is necessary to soak the chana at least 8 hrs or overnight.
- Then wrap the soaked chana in a wet towel and leave it for 24 to 48 hrs to sprout.
- Some may not like the raw smell of the chana, so you can blanch it in hot water for 5 mins.
- You may even sprout green moong, white chana along with this and serve.
- You can even add a diced raw mango or crushed peanuts according to your taste and need.
- You can even add the paneer cubes.
Healthy sprouted black chana salad is ready to relish.
