I have already posted how to make Seeraga Samba rice Biryani in the regular pressure cooker. Today I wanted to try it in the electric pressure cooker and it turned out to be a perfect consistency. This rice cooks very fast so the time taken in an electric pressure cooker is only 5 mins. If you have all the ingredients ready you can even prepare the Biryani in no time with the same taste and texture. Let us see how to make this recipe.

- 2 cups Seeraga samba rice
- 1/2 Kg Chicken
- 2 Onions slit lengthwise
- 1 Tomato small (finely chopped)
- 1/2 tsp Turmeric powder
- 2 Green chillies
- 2 tbsp Yoghurt/Curd
- 2 tbsp Ginger Garlic
- 1 tbsp Biryani Masala Powder
- 1 cup Mint Leaves/Pudina finely chopped
- 1/2 cup Coriander/Kothamalli Leaves finely chopped
- 1/2 Lemon juice
- 1 tbsp Ghee
- 3 tbsp oil
- 4 cups Water
- salt to taste
- 2 Bay Leaves
- 3 Cinnamon stick/Pattai 1 inch each
- 5 Cloves
- 1 Star anise
- 2 Cardamom Green
- 1 tsp Fennel seed/Sombu
- 1 tsp Kal Pasi/Black stone
- Turn on SAUTE mode. When the display shows HOT add oil.
- Add bay leaves, cinnamon stick, cloves, star anise, green cardamom, fennel seeds, and black stone. Saute for a min let it splutter.
- Add green chilies and saute for a min. Then add onion, a little salt for onion and saute until it turns golden brown color.
- Add ginger-garlic paste and saute until raw smell goes. Then add tomato and saute until it turns mushy. Add turmeric powder and Biryani masala powder and saute for a min. Do not let the masala burn.
- Add curd and saute for another min. Now add chicken pieces, a little salt to chicken and saute until chicken turns white and half cooked.
- Then add coriander leaves, mint leaves and mix well. Then add seeraga samba rice washed and drained (no need to soak the rice). Saute the rice for a min in the masala.
- Now add required water, adjust salt (already we have added in onion and chicken so add only required), lemon juice, ghee and mix well.
- Cancel SAUTE mode. Close the lid. Turn the VENT to the SEALING position. Select PRESSURE COOK mode HIGH for 5 mins. Once done let the pressure release naturally (NPR).
- Open the lid. Now mix it gently without breaking the rice using fork or ladle. Delicious seeraga samba chicken biryani is ready. Serve hot with raita of your choice.
- I have used bird green chili, it is very hot so I added only 2 chilies. If using regular Indian Chili you can add 8-10 chilies. For one cup of rice, we add 5 green chilies.
- I did not soak the rice so added 1:2 water as we do it regularly.
- Before pressure cooking rice, saute the chicken thoroughly as rice takes less time than chicken.
- You can even reduce green chili and add chili powder too.
- Adjust the spice level according to your taste.
Delicious Seeraga Samba Rice Chicken Biryani is ready to relish.
