As Ganesh Chathurthi is around the corner I tried this gulkand stuffed milk powder modak. I always like the combination of gulkand and peda, so combined both and made it into modak. This combination tasted divine.
We usually prepare sweet modak or savory modak using rice flour or atta. Either it is steamed or deep-fried. This time I wanted to try something simple and yet tasty and this tuned out to be yum. This modak can be prepared in less than 10 mins. I have combined gulkand and mixed dry fruits as the filling and milk powder and condensed milk as the outer crust. If you have all the ingredients ready this can be prepared in no time.
I have used modak mold to make this kozhukattai, instead, you can make it without the mold also. I have already posted few more Vinayaka Chathurthy recipes like Kara Pidi Kozhukattai, Vella Pidi Kozhukattai, Ammini Kozhukattai, Paal Kozhukattai. Now let us see how to prepare this recipe.

- 1 cup Milk powder full fat
- 1/2 cup Condensed milk full fat
- 1 tsp Cardamom/Elaichi Powder
- 2 tbsp Milk
- 1 pinch Saffron
- 1 tbsp Ghee
- 2 tbsp Gulkand
- 3 tbsp Mixed dry fruits powder
- Grind coarsely badam, cashew 6 each. Mix it with gulkand and set aside. Soak a pinch of saffron in 2 tbsp of hot milk and set aside.
- In a pan add ghee, milk powder, and saute it for a min. Then add condensed milk and mix for a min.
- Then add soaked saffron milk, cardamom powder and cook for 2 mins or until it leaves the pan. Transfer the milk powder dough to a bowl and let it cool for a while.
- Apply oil to modak mold. Take a small lemon size milk powder dough and press it inside the mold, that it covers the entire mold and a hole is in the center. Now fill this hole with a tbsp of prepared dry fruit gulkand filling. Now take another small pinch of milk powder dough and close the filling thoroughly, so that the filling doesn't spill out while demolding.
- Remove modak gently from the mold and place it on a plate. Make modak with the remaining dough too. Milk powder gulkand modak is ready to serve God.
- Do not cook the milk powder for a very long time. It gathers within a min or two.
- You can either stuff the filling with plain gulkand or add some crushed nuts too. I have used cashew and badam. You can even add any dry fruits of your choice.
- If you have no gulkand, you can make it plain without the stuffing.
Delicious gulkand stuffed milk powder modak is ready to offer to God as Prasadh.
