One of the simple and delicious mutton pepper gravy without coconut can be prepared in just 30 mins. This gravy pairs well with Idly, Dosa, Rice, Roti, Poori, Parata and can also be had as an accompaniment with Chicken Biriyani or any Pulao.
I have used homemade Coriander Powder in this recipe. This homemade coriander powder has many other spices incorporated in it. If you use plain coriander powder, you may miss some flavors. If possible make a small amount of coriander powder described earlier in my blog and use it in this recipe.

- 500 gms Mutton
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 1/4 tsp Turmeric
- 1 tsp Ginger Garlic Paste
- 1/2 cup Water
- 2 tbsp oil
- 1/4 tsp Fennel seed/Sombu
- 1/4 tsp Pepper Corns/milagu
- 2 Onion finely chopped
- 1 strand Curry leaves
- 1 tsp Ginger Garlic Paste
- 2 Tomato finely chopped
- 1/2 tsp Chili powder
- 2 tsp Coriander powder
- 2 tsp Pepper powder
- 1 tsp Garam Masala Powder
- salt to taste
- 1 tbsp Coriander leaves finely chopped
- I have used boneless mutton. You can either use it with or without bone. Wash mutton thoroughly in running water 2-3 times. Drain it completely.
- In a pressure cooker, add mutton, salt, ginger garlic paste, turmeric powder, and water. Pressure cook for 6 whistles and set aside.
- Heat an iron pan, add oil. Once the oil gets heated, add fennel seed, and peppercorns. Let it crackle.
- Then add onion, curry leaves, and saute till onion turns translucent. Then add ginger garlic paste. Saute until raw smell goes.
- Now add tomatoes and saute till it becomes mushy. Now add chili powder, coriander powder, garam masala powder, pepper powder, and saute well until oil separates.
- Add cooked mutton, adjust salt if required, and mix all thoroughly.
- Cook on low flame until the gravy thickens or reaches the required consistency. Then garnish with coriander leaves and serve hot.
- I used an equal amount of ginger and garlic to make ginger garlic paste. You can make Ginger Garlic Paste in bulk and store it in the refrigerator.
- Also, I have used homemade Coriander Powder.
- This mutton pepper gravy can be had with rice, roti, idli, or dosa.
