Many paneer dishes are very popular in India, and palak paneer is one of the easiest, most delicious, and most popular paneer curries you can quickly make at home. This dish consists of Indian cottage cheese and Spinach as the main ingredients, hence its name.
Apart from spinach and paneer, it uses regular ingredients that are available in our pantry. Paneer can be prepared at home very easily. Here is the recipe for paneer. Paneer is even available in almost all grocery stores. There are fresh paneers as well as frozen ones available in the market.
Fresh paneer has less shelf life; it should be consumed in 2 to 3 days. Whereas frozen paneer can be kept in the freezer for more than a month. Palak paneer is even loved by the kids. Now let us see how to prepare this recipe.

- 1 bunch Palak/Spinach
- 200 gms Paneer/Indian Cheese diced into small pieces
- 1 Onion
- 1 Tomato
- 2 Green chilies
- 1 tsp Ginger Garlic Paste
- 1/4 tsp Turmeric powder
- 1 tsp Kashmiri Red Chili Powder
- 1/2 tsp Coriander powder
- 1/2 tsp Garam Masala Powder
- 1/2 tsp Cumin Powder
- 3 tbsp oil
- 2 tsp Butter
- 1/2 tsp Cumin seeds/Jeera
- 2 tsbp Fresh cream
- salt to taste
- In boiling water, blanch the spinach for 3 mins. Once done, remove it and place it in ice-cold water. This helps to retain the green color.
- Now squeeze the water from the spinach, blend it to a smooth paste, and set it aside.
- Heat a Kadai, and add 2 tbsp oil. Once the oil gets heated, add jeera, let it crackle.
- Add onion and green chilies and saute until the onion turns translucent. Add ginger garlic paste and saute until the raw smell goes.
- Then add tomato and saute until it turns mushy. Then add turmeric powder, chili powder, garam masala powder, cumin powder, and coriander powder and saute for 4-5 minutes.
- Once done, switch off the flame. Let the mixture cool completely. Then transfer the mixture to a mixer jar and grind it to a smooth paste.
- Now heat another pan and add a tbsp of oil and a tsp of butter. Add pureed masala and spinach, adjust salt, add little water, and mix thoroughly. Cook for 2 mins.
- Add paneer to this gravy and cook for another 2 mins. Garnish with fresh cream. Palak paneer is ready. Serve hot with roti, naan, or any bread of your choice.
- You can either use homemade paneer or frozen paneer.
- If using frozen paneer, defrost it before using or put it in boiling water for 2 mins and then use it.
- blanch spinach for only 2 to 3 mins. Then transfer it to ice-cold water to retain the bright green color.
- You can even add homemade cream instead of ready-made one.
